RAB Friday II: Annoying Text Bug

Saturday, 2005-08-27; 02:42:00

It's Friday, so you know what that means! (Well, technically Saturday, but whatever.)

Well, yesterday was Friday, which means it's time for another dose of Report-an-Apple-Bug Friday, only this time it's Report-an-Apple-Bug-One-Day-Late, since I didn't have time to really write an entry before now. Well, I kinda did, but whatever. Today's issue is called the "Annoying Text Bug," and it only occurs under Mac OS X 10.4.x Tiger.

Here's a QT movie to demonstrate the problem. Basically what happens is this: if you are typing too fast in a standard text field, and your text wraps to the next line, the text you are typing will appear to replace the lines below, when in fact it does not. To see this, just select all text, and the text field will update properly to show that lines of text have only been added, and none replaced.

I do not care to figure out the exact speed threshold for this bug, but I do know two things: 1) the speed threshold is very high, but nevertheless, 2) you can type fast enough, however briefly, to cause this bug to occur and make you get annoyed.

Bug field under #4234753.

One keyboard may have been harmed in the making of this bug report. ;)
