Short Tidbits: iMac, House

Just a short entry on the iMac's 5th birthday, and having the house to myself for a few days.

Five years ago today, Apple made history by releasing the iMac, that translucent bondi blue computer that rocked the technology world, sending computer manufacturers scrambling to make knock-offs when Apple was just about to introduce the second-generation iMac. It was the iMac that lit the fire of translucent plastics in all sorts of different non-computer products from lamps to chairs, and it was arguably the iMac that put Apple back on the radar for normal consumers buying a computer for their home. And it was 5 years ago today that I walked out of that CompuTown (I think that's what it was called) store with my own, brand spanking-new, bondi blue iMac, after having used the family Macintosh IIsi for so long. That little blue wonder got 2 years of use out of me, 2 out of my brother, and (as far as I know) is continuing to be used in some fashion over at Almond Elementary School's computer lab. Here's to hoping that my current iMac (with ITS own distinctive shape) will be as much of a trooper as that little iMac was. *sniff* Maybe I should have a Panther Party when Mac OS X 10.3 comes out and install it on that little old thing just to see how it runs. :)

And as a short little side note, I think I'm going to have a nice quiet weekend. My parents and brother left for Prescott, Arizona, since my brother's school starts at the end of the month, and he's going for pre-season soccer. They come back Sunday night, so I have about 2 full, quiet days ahead of me. :) (I have the Honda, too. Maybe I should go somewhere. :) ) I'll probably end up spending the majority of one of those days rewatching Escaflowne all over again (NOTE: No, I did not pay the ridiculous three figure price listed in that link, and no, I am not talking about the movie)...
